The Dangling Man is the first in a planned series of crime detective novels. It’s set against the very real backdrop of social issues in contemporary South Africa.
Douglasdale is a Johannesburg suburb better known for its dairy farm than crime fighting. Captain Boyd works at the local police station. He’s had a long, impressive career but he knows his days on the force are numbered.
Up-and-coming detective MacFarlane Chauke arrives at the police station. Veteran Boyd suspects that Chauke’s arrival means that he could be training his replacement. With the discovery of a dead body dangling over a busy arterial the two must combine their talents to solve the case.
The novel explores the relationship between divergent ideologies, perspectives and personalities. It’s an honest look at the warped social fabric of South African society.
